Office of Research and Innovation
The Office of Research at the School of Public Health, University of Memphis, is a central hub for advancing innovative, interdisciplinary and community-engaged research across public health disciplines. Our mission is to foster a thriving, collaborative research environment that addresses critical public health challenges, builds meaningful academic and community partnerships, and improves health outcomes locally, nationally and globally.
We are committed to supporting faculty, staff, and students through all phases of research development—from idea generation to grant submission and project implementation—while ensuring regulatory compliance and research integrity. The core objective of our work is to translate research into practice and policy, with an intentional focus on serving the Memphis community and vulnerable populations through evidence-based solutions.

Cayuse – Electronic Research Administration
Once you’ve identified your research interest, the next step is working with Cayuse.
Filling out Sponsor forms frequently requires information about the University’s authorized officials, registration numbers and codes, Congressional Districts and Tax ID number. For information most commonly requested, follow these live links to access our Indirect Cost Rate Agreement & Fringe Rate information on budgeting tuition/fees, information on Core Facilities or Equipment available on campus.If you are submitting a grant or contract to an external entity, it goes through the Electronic Research Administration (commonly known as Cayuse). This database of proposals/grant submission manager/post-award connection with grants accounting is one of the most important tools in the Division of Research and Innovation. The Office of Sponsored Programs guides faculty through submitting in Cayuse, and if you are not sure where to start or are a new user of Cayuse, email cayusesupport@memphis.edu.
There are three websites for Cayuse:
- Cayuse SP – used for all proposals and includes electronic routing (where faculty start).
- Cayuse 424 – used for submitting directly to grants.gov.
- Cayuse IRB – used for all Institutional Review Board considerations.

University IRB/Compliance
The University of Memphis manages human subject research protocol review through Cayuse IRB. The software allows the Institutional Review Board to review the submission process while simplifying and making transparent the protocol review process. Using your University of Memphis login credentials, you will have 24/7 access to submission, editing and review of your IRB protocols, as well as paperless electronic approvals – no waiting to receive approval docs – and management of IRB protocols from initial submission to close.
Access
Investigators are required to use Cayuse Institutional Review Board (IRB) for all protocol submissions. If you are a current student, faculty or staff member and have tried logging in to Cayuse and do not have access or you have tried opening Cayuse Institutional Review Board (IRB) and are unable to access it, or have any questions, please email cayusesupport@memphis.edu or call (901) 678-2705.
Access Cayuse Institutional Review Board (IRB), enter your UofM login, password and select Cayuse IRB Human Studies Compliance.
